The new season of Fortnite has arrived. After two weeks and change of playing, I can affirmatively say it is a great update! Albeit with a couple of gripes. While the map has not changed much, there are small improvements that make the game feel fresh. The two major changes I have noticed are the introduction of chrome and a solid refresh of available weapons. I’ll touch on the latter first. While the weapons are mostly unvaulted, it creates a new dynamic in play attempting to get used to them. The Rapid Fire SMG has returned this season and while I initially ignored it for the suppressed SMG (I was a fan of the Stinger) I have found the Rapid Fire to be quite lovely after it becomes rare or above. It is a serious tool for short ranged attacks, especially if someone is not as quick with a shotgun.

The second major addition, Chrome, is pretty cool! It heals you, you can phase through walls, it looks cool. It is a minor thing that changes the gameplay enough that it can be a challenge to get used to, or an advantage to have. You can also chrome guns, cars, animals, and structures. The two chrome guns, a burst AR and a Shotgun are great. As you get hits, they build XP which then levels them up from uncommon to Epic (it may go to mythic, but I have yet to get there). The burst AR is my favorite of the two, and I generally pick one up whenever I see one. Chrome is a fun element added to the game. As for the Battle Pass, well I find it a bit lackluster. The only character I am really invested in getting is Grizz. There seems to be less of an emphasis on in season characters (like Jonesy). The Penultimate reward is Gwen from Spider-Man, despite this season not being Marvel themed. C’mon Epic, retire the marvel skins for a bit or make it part of the season! Why would I grind for a character I don’t really care about? Give me an ultra exclusive Jonesy or something! You have literally revamped his character and included him in paradise missions but there is not a whiff of him from the Battle Pass! At least I think he is included in the Paradise mission, they keep referencing some guy named “Jones.” But like include those people in the Battle Pass, tie the face to the name for god sakes. Overall, the season is fun, and very playable, but the Battle Pass is getting stale. IF the Battle pass is a free acquisition, or for some reason you LOVE the characters, buy it. If not, save your V-Bucks for Relaxed Fit Jonesy.

I couldn’t agree more! Epic needs to revamp their battlepass! When is the last time there was even a good emote in the battlepass? Now half the skins are just color palette swaps!
